.NET Entity Frameworke + Selenium + Design Patterns Web Crawler
This project is designed to automate data collection and entry tasks by leveraging a web crawler. It includes robust mechanisms for handling failures and ensures seamless data storage using .NET Entity Framework. The system architecture employs the Strategy Pattern and Chain of Responsibility Pattern to create a modular, maintainable, and efficient solution. Selenium is used to interact with web interfaces for both crawling and automated data entry.
Key Components
Web Crawler
- Purpose: Extract information from websites dynamically.
- Functionality: Navigates through web pages, scrapes data, and processes it for storage.
- Implementation: Uses Selenium for interacting with dynamic websites (e.g., filling out forms, bypassing JavaScript-heavy content). The crawler logic dynamically adapts to site structures, using strategies for different web layouts.
Data Entry Automation
- Purpose: Automates the process of entering data into external systems or websites.
- Functionality: Uses Selenium to simulate user actions, such as filling out forms and submitting data.
- Implementation: Paired with the web crawler to handle tasks like scraping and posting data into specific systems. Failures in automation trigger recovery mechanisms to retry or log errors.
Failure Redundancy
- Purpose: Ensures system reliability in case of errors (e.g., website structure changes, server downtime).
- Mechanisms:
- Retry mechanisms with exponential backoff for transient issues.
- Error logging for debugging and reporting.
- Graceful fallbacks or manual intervention when automated recovery fails.
- Implementation: Error handling in Selenium scripts and data pipeline, ensuring minimal disruption.
.NET Entity Framework
- Purpose: Simplifies interaction with the database for data persistence.
- Functionality:
- Saves extracted data to a relational database.
- Handles complex queries and object-relational mapping (ORM).
- Implementation: Encapsulates data operations, supporting scalability and maintainability. Used alongside LINQ to enforce data integrity and relationships.
Selenium
- Purpose: Powers browser automation for web crawling and data entry.
- Functionality: Provides interaction with web elements like buttons, forms, and tables.
- Implementation: Integrated into the system to navigate through websites, handle dynamic content, and simulate human-like interactions.
Strategy Pattern
- Purpose: Defines multiple algorithms for web crawling and allows dynamic selection based on context.
- Functionality:
- Handles various website structures and interaction needs.
- Facilitates testing and swapping out components with minimal disruption.
- Implementation: Encapsulates crawling strategies, such as paginated crawling, form-based scraping, or AJAX-based loading, within distinct classes.
Chain of Responsibility Pattern
- Purpose: Decouples request handling into a chain of processors, allowing flexible and modular error handling.
- Functionality:
- Passes requests through a sequence of handlers (e.g., validation, scraping, storing).
- Allows partial or complete processing of a request without affecting other components.
- Implementation: Used for error handling, retry mechanisms, and data transformation pipelines.
